Response written to response.txt Facility - Church of the 49ers, Columbia CA

The discovery of gold in the Sierras attracted pioneer-spirited men and women to this area with the lure of quick and easy wealth. Civic order was not a priority, but some citizens developed schools and churches. First Presbyterian Church of Columbia was established in 1854 and a Sanctuary was erected in 1864. After fire destroyed the first Sanctuary, a new Sanctuary was constructed to closely resemble the historic 1864 building and was rededicated on December 19, 1954 on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the church. With a maximum occupancy of 229, this unique landmark with its stained-glass windows presents a beautiful setting for Worship and draws the public for special occasions such as concerts and weddings. A separate Office Building, east of the Sanctuary, provides the Pastor’s Study, the Church Office, and a second office on the upper level with a large meeting / choir room below. Increased attendance led to the addition of the two-story Christian Education Building with Preschool and Sunday School classrooms. The Food Pantry is located on the lower level. The large Faith Hall, dedicated in 2001, is used for church functions and community events. In 2024 we completed installation of solar panels to reduce our PG&E bills.
